One Last Finish

This will be my last finish for 2024.

These are the socks that did not want to be made.

Oh my gosh . . . that second sock was a BEAR!

Yarn:  Opal Surprise!

Color:  4066  Beige/grey

Pattern:  Stockinette sock with a slip stitch heel

As I mentioned in a previous post, this was the oldest yarn in my stash. Apparently the yarn wanted to stay in the stash.  I had troubles all the way around with the second sock.

The ribbing and leg went okay, but I miscounted several times on the heel flap causing me rip back to the beginning of the flap. Then I got the flap done, but was not happy with the gusset. The picked up stitches were really loosey goosey.  I ripped back about 10 rows to the end of the heel turn. Then the ssk decreases looked awful. Rip once again.

I was finally happy with that part and went round and round down the foot. I picked it up this morning around 4 AM when I couldn't sleep. BIG mistake.

Somehow I had stitched into the stitch below about 8 rows from the toe decreases. It left a sort of hole on the bottom of the foot. I tried fudging it, but I could feel the bump and knew that would be irritating. So once again I was ribbing back.

Finally to finished at about 10:30 tonight.

I kitchenered V-E-R-Y carefully!

AND .....they are done.

Off for a good soak --- the socks I mean.

I'm off to bed.

  2. I like that color and I'm impressed that you kept going, even when the sock didn't want to be knit! I did the same today with a pair of ankle socks using two fingering weight scraps held together. I ripped the entire sock out after getting all the way through the heel turn and was starting down the foot. The realization that it was very small came upon me and I ripped the entire sock back. I then went up a size and began and finished completely, only to find that it's still too small. There will not be a second sock with this one!

  8. Oh my goodness. That second sock did not behave at all. Thank goodness it is finished. And what is it with age and insomnia?!! I generally get up, use the bathroom, get a drink and read a little more in order to reset my routine. I haven't tried knitting but maybe I should.

  9. For as much as both of us knit socks, I completely understand this! Sometimes every single stitch is a battle. But the finished socks look great, congratulations!
